this season is just making me want to dig out my old supernatural paperbacks. i love that everyone is finding their own way to be beautiful and unique and special, and i love seeing those light up in the most amazing ways.

i loved the theme of the show this year. it was soap opera in comic book form! i was wondering if perhaps there were too many characters. but the writers seem to have been working really hard on expanding and continuing a few of them, so it seems like it was a good decision.

micheal sampson and amanda tapping play the high-spirited and occasionally catty ladies, working together to hold the city together. sure, they join forces for a what the hell were they thinking moment, but that’s the only time. wynonna’s partner in crime is, of course, her brother derek (played by zachary quinto). he’s the asshole brotherly type who can handle all things tough, smart, and dangerous. wynonna is more interested in hanging out with him than she is her older brother and brother-in-law, everett, a man wynonna finds to be unimpressive.

wynonna and her troubles really start when the woman of the house finds a baby in the basement. wynonna helps the young mother keep her son, only to find the baby is a revenant. wynonna and her ragtag group of friends, led by everett, have to clear their names, and try to help restore the family, while trying to hold onto their own identities. each episode has a different feel, different theme, and different characters. hell, there are even some jokes!

from the title cards to the photos, the opening credits for this series are by far the best of any i’ve seen. it really gives that first season a credit that, while each episode was worth the money, you felt like you were watching a real episode of television, rather than a typical episode of a show. then, as each episode progressed the theme started to shine through even more. the earp family life, the evil world of sheriff jody mills, and the fates of the various revenants are all the focus.

s6 season 1, 2, and 5 all include a dynamic version of the show’s theme song that changes as the seasons progress. in season 6, the song remains the same, and is only used when the show is replayed. in addition, this week, the supernatural soundtrack is being released with the episode, and there will be a separate soundtrack released for s6, which will feature alternate versions of songs that were featured on the show. the soundtrack will be available on itunes and amazon from december 22nd. after the premiere, supernatural received a ton of criticism, much of it unfounded. the main point of contention was the character of jared padalecki, who at the time was playing a demon possessing a young boy, who had to possess his nephew in order to kill him. this was extremely disturbing to many, and the criticism was unjust. it was unfair to blame the episode on jared, as the show was never intended to have the issue that the characters were dealing with in that episode. but what can you do when people see what they want to see? the show was never intended to be a thought-provoking show, nor was it ever intended to be a family show. it’s a show about saving people, even when the people involved don’t want to be saved. like buffy before it, supernatural and wynonna earp have expanded their universe in recent seasons. while the series started as about a young couple who are lost in the desert and find the oddities of purgatory, the episodes have evolved into a much larger story. it’s often hard to remember what happened in the earlier seasons when watching the later seasons, because the show can spend upwards of twenty episodes on a single storyline, and at times i have the feeling that its moving so quickly that i’m left to catch up as i go. 5ec8ef588b
