Now, before we continue, I’d like to clarify that I feel that The Elden Ring is actually a pretty good game. At times, it does what it sets out to do pretty well, and at the same time it doesn’t completely fall into the trap of being generic and trying to copy what everyone else is doing. That would be nice, but it isn’t something that it is able to pull off. Therefore, what I’m trying to get at is that, as a game that’s clearly trying to emulate the look and feel of other games, it doesn’t do much well. Sure, the story tries to evoke a nostalgic feel, but because of how it’s done, it just seems forced. It doesn’t just feel forced, it feels like a step in the wrong direction, and it doesn’t really let you feel like you’re in a world that feels authentic.
